Main purpose: Platinum Credit is partnering with Firefly Uganda in completing one (1) classroom block. What is pending to complete the block is the floor that has been estimated at 1M (One million shillings only). For the year 2017, Platinum Credit will only consider this contribution but we are hoping to partner with Fire Fly Uganda in sponsoring children where you pay 15 Euros per child per month. The other areas where Platinum Credit can support Firefly Uganda include; Solar boats, Toilet decomposing systems and water purification systems.

Company profile

Firefly Uganda is tackling global environmental issues, while working hand in hand with the local communities of the Ssese Islands region of Uganda. They provide schools, better education, healthcare and environmental sustainability.

They are currently situated on Banda Island, a small haven approximately 1 square kilometre in size, teeming with wildlife and a diverse ecosystem.
The Ssese Island region of Uganda is an archipelago situated in Lake Victoria, the largest lake in Africa. It is formed of 84 islands, 48 of which are inhabited. There are roughly 100 villages with a total population of over 100,000 people, which is served by only 1 secondary school and 6 primary schools, nowhere near enough to serve all the children.
The region holds some of the highest rates of HIV and primary school to secondary school dropouts in the world, 80% and 75% respectively. These statistics only account for the children that ever get registered for school in the first place: it is impossible to get exact numbers, but statistics have it that as many as 40% of all children never do.

Education

Firefly Uganda aims to provide a high standard of education that nurtures the student’s imagination and curiosity, whilst maintaining their cultural heritage. By working with both local teachers and international volunteers we provide a diverse learning environment that is playful, safe and encourages our children to explore with their minds. Alongside essential academic subjects, our children are introduced to cultural studies that stimulate a passion for learning and an inquisitive outlook.
